Looking Back
Mrs. Richard White was the main founder of BDC. Her husband and Dr. Gentile also shared in starting the club. The first meeting was held to talk about starting a club in April of 1958. The main concern was Dachshunds.
The club was originally called The Dachshund Club of Wisconsin but later it was decided to change it to the Badger Dachshund Club. A badger club for a badger dog in a badger state!
First elections were held in January of 1959. First elected officers Richard White – President; Virginia Wilke - Vice President; Shirley White – Secretary; and Alma Sternberg -Treasurer.
The board of directors included Azalea Gascoigne, Rosemary Gojesen and Sandra Savid-Dick. The club had 11 members, some of them teenagers. By the end of the first year there were 38 members. Our current membership is 55 members.
Badger Dachshund Specialty Shows
BDC held their first A match on August 30, 1959. The judge was Mrs. Gary Gerber and entry fee was $1. The second A match was held on May 22, 1960 with 71 entries. The judge was Donald Frazier. The club had great support during this time from a sister club, The Dachshund Club of the Great Lakes.
After two successful A matches we held our first AKC licensed Specialty Show on May 7, 1961. The judge was Eva Sparling, there were 66 entries with an entry fee of $6. Badger now includes Obedience, Rally and sometimes Agility in the annual Spring Specialty weekend shows.
